A Styling Challenge

I was recently tagged by the lovely Kirsty of Belle Fantaisie (make sure you check out her blog!) to take part in a Tesco styling challenge! I chose to style this lovely lace turtle-neck top from Tesco's Couture range. As demonstrated by the photo on the website, I think the top lends itself really well to a muted palette, and I thought these H&M Garden Collection shorts would be the perfect pairing. Quite a simple outfit, but with the shoulder pads as a (very!) prominant feature, I thought the top would look best with the rest of the outfit toned down!

I really like the top, the crochet-style lace seems very 60s, it's easy to wear, and I love the little details such as the mini buttons along the cuffs - it wouldn't look out of place on the rails of the original Biba!

I have to say, Tesco and Couture are not two words I would usually expect to appear in the same sentence! I'm not too sure what to make of their collection - it's certainly a little different to the usual supermarket ranges, and this particular collection seems to be making a slight reference to high-end designers such as Balmain. The clothes retail at between £40 and a whopping £120 - an interesting pricing decision for the Tesco brand, so I'd be interested to see how successful the range is!

What is your opinion on luxury, high priced supermarket clothing ranges?

P.S. I'm off to Clothes Show Live tomorrow! So you can expect a full report soon!

I think it can be quite risky, as people don't tend to assosiate those kind of prices with that brand, so I'm not sure how successful it would be. Saying that, some of the designs are quite eye catching and if people can dress them up as well as you have then maybe they'll have some good investment pieces :) xx

Hmmm, top is certainly lovely (and looks every bit as lovely on you!), I think that as long as their range is good value for money I'd pay upto £120 happily.

I went to the Clothes Show yesterday :) very good, though I don't think there's as much there as previous years. Hope you have a good shop!

I love how you've styled this top. It's just like how I would've! :)

I'm not sure about supermarkets with high priced clothing range. I guess it's quite risky but saying that I've seen some lovely pieces recently and I've been left surprised after they were from shops you wouldn't at all expect!

I think it looks gorgeous on you, but the price-range is a little steep! I can't imagine it selling that well. When people go and do their food shop, they don't want to double the bill!
You look amazing though :)

Really like the top, goes so well with the shorts, although I agree with you that tesco and couture isn't something I would ever think of! x

Really pretty top, can't imagine Tesco are going to have much luck with a couture range though due to their brand image!

I personally would never pay that amount of money for clothes from a supermarket, although Tescos regular range does do some pretty cute clothes - especially a red tea dress I've seen!

Also, I googled '60s icons' today for some school work, and you were on the first page of Google images! Shows how good your style must be then :) xxx

I really think you looked so much better with longer hair and no glasses, you look a bit like Velma out of Scooby Doo now, especially with the neckline of that top :(

In reply: I can't not wear glasses as I'm very very short sighted! Before, I took them off for photoshoots, but wore really boring glasses in real life and they were just horrible. But now I've found a pair that go with my style - and the hair suits me better as its much less limp than before! I don't think looking like Velma is really that bad anyway :P

I think it's a good thing that Tesco are trying something new but maybe it would have been better at Sainsburys where people with a little more money shop. This top is really nice!

Love this top! Would never have guessed that it was from Tesco! Didn't know that they had a Couture range, must check it out!
Although perhaps may not be able to afford it, especially on a student budget! However for one off pieces, it may well be worth it!
The shorts go well with it too :)

Oh my. I so LOVE the turtleneck! It is a shame Tesco doesn't bring pieces like that to the Czech republic....on the other hand, another reason to go for a trip to England again:-)
