Sunset

I've now finished the aforementioned nightmare of an exam - only 5 more to go! When I got back from the exam hall I decided to have an afternoon off revision, and treated myself to all sorts of naughty things like... half a tub of Ben and Jerrys (nomnomnom), watching lots of nonsense on iPlayer, filling some pages of my sketch book and reading the new Vogue (at £4.10 for a copy, that well and truly is a treat). I've never felt more relaxed!

I also took the opportunity to dig out all of my favourite clothes and actually wear something nice for a change. Recently, for the sake of revision comfort, I have been living in jeans and a jumper and feeling rather dull as a consequence - so a return to a nice retro outfit was a welcome change. Anyway - it just so happens that I ripped said jeans whilst riding my bike home... so it looks like I'll have no option but to wear pretty things until I work out how to mend them!

Anyway, this morning *cough, afternoon... I am a student after all* I tried my best to blow dry my hair into a 60s bouffant/beehive sort of thing. I managed to get a bit of volume, but my hair has now returned to its normal flat self. I'm considering trying out those BumpIt things, but I'm not sure if they're any good. Have any of you tried them?
Today's outfit consisted of my favourite burnt-orange skirt, a vintage red belt and this blouse that I made back in January. I decided to also don my beret and red coat for added 60s pizazz - not sure about the whole red/orange combination but its nice to feel like a sunset once in a while :D.

Now on to the 'controversial' copy of vogue, which contains an interview with Alexa Chung that caused a bit of an uproar amongst bloggers recently. Here is the offending quote, "Blogs are ridiculous; they're just mood boards." Now I don't particularly find this offensive - in a way, blogs are a little ridiculous, but in the best possible way. And why shouldn't a person be allowed their own place on the internet for their thoughts and opinions? I like to have a place to create a moodboard of my favourite outfits/inspirations/eras/styles, especially as it is my only real 'artistic' outlet in a student experience that mainly involves balance sheets, verb tables and supply & demand curves. What does everyone else think about this? If you are a blogger, were you offended by this statement?

Hahaha, at least you managed to get actual clothes on for revision, I've been wearing pj's! So glad its over now though (until retakes anyway)

You look gorgeous anyway, love your hair!

I don't find the Alexa stuff offensive, she probably doesn't have much of an insight anyway, meh! To be honest, I don't care about ANYTHING she has to say, *shrug* xx

I love the moment where you can slack some time with tv shows and chocolate bars. It's important to treat yourself from time to time :) And i love your outfit. The colours go great togheter.

Sarah is right-Alexa is a good clotheshorse and not much else to me, and is obviously unaware-as a blog reader I find it offensive that she belittles them.

on bumpits-I bought one and it was a little big and floppy for my fine hair, it was difficult to hide with my natural hair but with a little work it looks good and is relatively cheap.

Love that skirt!

I think Alexa's quote is a bit ridiculous seeing as most of her fan base.. are in fact bloggers? Seems a bit rude and ungrateful! Can't say I'm too muffled by her opinion, I used to really like how her but now... She just seems obscenely dull.

I use bumpits and find them really easy to use. They help create just the right amount of volume. You can get them, fairly cheaply on ebay.

She probably just blurted it out, before realising properly what she said...
Love yr skirt (beautiful colour) and blouse, I've been wearing old clothes all week, since we're opening a shop at work, it'll be nice to dress up again this weekend!

Love the outfit, the blouse is very cute, you are very talented :) I think it was probably a bad move by Alexa to make that statement, as Victoria said, a lot of her fans are bloggers and she gets a lot of positive press through blogs so I think she will have lost a few fans there really.

I bought my generic bump-it at the $1 store, and from what I can tell, it is identical to the more expensive versions. Very easy to use in my hair, but my sister has fine hair and has a harder time "hiding" the bump-it.

I bought a cheaper version of bump-its from the poundshop, they came in a box with various different sizes and I always use them when I want a beehive look and although they're not exactly amazing, they do the job fine.

I've not read the latest Vogue yet, so this is the first I've heard of the Alexa thing and I honestly can't believe she said that, I think it's really rude considering that most of her fans are bloggers :( xx

Loving this outfit! I'm having a volume problem with my hair at the mo too, find putting the rag curls in make it look acceptable for longer! I agree with another bloggers comment, the Alexa thing was possibly taken out of context, altho if it wasn't I'd say it was pretty rude, especially considering a lot of the blogs I read obviously have a lot of effort put into them :)

I really want to read said interview with Alexa. There's lots of interest surrounding it on blogs I noticed. I guess I can see why. I don't know what else she said about blogging... it depends in what context she said it I suppose. I see blogging as a hobby/project/creative outlet. It's not my life but I guess if it was and I relied upon it heavily then her comment might have raised an eyebrow!
You look lovely considering the amount of work you must have been doing!! I don't think I even managed to brush my hair during exams! :S

I think what alexa said can be true in some cases but she shouldn't have said it i mean most of her "fans" are bloggers and they admire her ( myself being one of them) i don't know if she is aware of that though...anyways i love your outfit as always you look like you jumped right out of the 60's its fantastic!

ooh that's very controversial! like a poster said above, a lot of her fanbase are bloggers so that wasn't a smart move of hers at all- automatically alienating her fanbase.

love your outfit :)

You look awesome, love the beret! I'm stuck in a bit of a dressing-up rut, myself. Casual just seems so dull!

Not sure I'd agree with the 'blogs are moodboards' comment - even if she was referring specifically to fashion blogs (and she wouldn't be making much sense if she wasn't), it really depends on the blog. But then, I've always found Alexa Chung a bit annoying (I think it's her voice).

lovely outfit. i bought this issue of vogue too, totally drawn in by alexa. i wasn't at all offended...although i think she has since (kind of) taken her statement back ;-)

Lovely look :) Hope uni's going well!

And I read this last week and noticed that comment! I love her style, but I do think that's a bit of a narrow minded comment to make! Having my blog has really made me think I'm good at something, and there's always someone to listen - and it's raised my confidence :) x

Shelby said...

i think the alexa comment is a bit offensive just because she obviously doesn't know who her fan base is. i find it more offensive not as someone who writes a blog, but as someone who is inspired by them (more so than by magazines). blogs are real people and accessible and that is what makes them wonderful and better than magazines

You look lovely Sadie. Ha I have just finished most of my uni stuff now and have lived in leggings and men's shirts for a month or so! Still haven't managed to get back on track with looking nice but getting there! I've literally just bought this Vogue and haven't got to the interview yet. I think some blogs are indeed like moodboards and mainly contain photos; however many are very well written, often by students who are, in large, very articulate. I do like Alexa Chung, though think she has a bit of nerve saying that- I don't think she's all she's cracked up to be, especially after finding out a while ago that she has a stylist!

Its quite funny that she said that when you could argue that magazines are just as much 'moodboards' as Blogs are... ignorance is hilarious, shame on you Ms Chung!

Looking gorgeous as always lovely :)

Lucy said...

ah good luck with your exams Sadie! Wow quite surprised Alexa said that considering blogs really nurtured her - featuring her and spreading her niche look. She's such an inspiration to so many bloggers, I think she's shooting herself in the foot there! Surprised but certainly not offended. Maybe thats not the whole story. There are certainly blogs that recycle imagery and are just moodboards but not like yours or mine, ours is original content. Anywho, toodles!
