Dungarees

These dungarees came in the post last week (getting parcels is so exciting!). I've wanted some for a while now, and these ones seemed just perfect - especially for 99p! I suppose they're my answer to this season's playsuits.

They're not the most flattering item of clothing, but there are loopholes for a waist belt so I might try to cynch the waist in a bit. But they'll be perfect for the summer, & I love the colour of the denim.

I teamed them with my favourite breton top, which you'll probably see a lot more of in the future because I love it so dearly. The lace tights are also a new item, which my sister kindly said 'looked like mold' (maybe the lacey bits don't stand out enough to look like lace). I think they look ok though!

Vintage Coat

As an end of exam treat, I went carbooting with my friends and we found loads of great bargains! One of the first places we went was a 'fill a bag for £5' stall (a brilliant invention haha). We ended up with a MASSIVE bag of clothes which was very difficult to lug around - but the pain was definitely worth it, because we got some great tops which were all roughly 30p each! It was a very hot day (which unfortunately meant I had very bad hayfever), but we strolled around picking up some lovely clothes in the sunshine.

One such item was this gorgeousgorgeousgorgeous coat that I found. I think I am completely in love with it; the colour, the shape, the style - it's perfection! It's from St Michael (an old M&S brand).

And guess what? The label says it's for Age 7. Obviously, it would fit a 7 year old very differently, but I think the sleeves are perfect at 3/4 length, and the length of the actual coat is ideal for someone who is short like me! Needless to say, the stall owner looked at me strangely when I was trying it on. But I was completely infatuated with it and she let me have it for £2.50! And here it is:

DIY Skirt & 'How To' Guide!

I've just finished the first half of my exams and I'm so glad to have a week off! Maths was pretty awful, despite all of my hard revision. Oh dear. But the rest were ok.

But anyway - here's the DIY post as promised! I made this skirt a while ago from an old men's shirt I found in a charity shop. I kindof made it up as I went along, but I'm pleased with how it turned out and it gets plenty of wear!

And incase anyone was wondering how I made it, I've written a little 'how to' guide. I hope the instructions are understandable - I'm really not very good at explaining! The method is fairly easy (I didn't find it too hard and I'm a beginner sewer). It gets a bit fiddly at the end though when you're putting the zip in. I think the best idea is to improvise as much as possible!

If anyone has a go at making one, let me know how it turned out!

Garden shed

I thought I'd go outside for outfit photos today, and do a quick pose by the garden shed! I went back inside pretty quickly though, because I was getting strange looks from the neighbours and I was freezing cold. The photos really highlight my complete lack of skill with a camera... (the white tights seem to reflect a little bit too much sunlight...). Has anyone got any tips for taking pictures outside? Should you face the sun, or find a shady place to stand?

The dress is another vintage find. Weirdly, I had found almost exactly the same dress in another charity shop earlier on the same day (must have been a popular dress when it was made!). I thought it was quite similar in colour, pattern and shape to this one, which is on sale in topshop at the moment.

I won't be blogging very much over the next week as I've got a few exams coming up. But I've got some DIY posts on the way so stay tuned!

Navy and Gold

I'm very happy today! I passed my driving theory test last night, and then this morning had my french oral exam. It went a lot better than I thought it would! Which is a big relief, because I was so nervous beforehand. I listened to a bit of Edith Piaf when I was getting dressed to get me into the french mood!

I was feeling a bit nautical today. The cardigan is a men's one from primark, but I replaced the original buttons with these amazing gold ones! I found them at the bottom of my button tin. The bag is a recent charity shop find!

Oh, and I've just started knitting a scarf (I know its nearly summer haha). It's about 1m20cm long at the moment. Its mainly pink (that seems to be the only colour wool we own) but with bits of white, cream, yellow and blue mixed in. I'm going to say that its my own take on those amazing knits by 'Rodarte' - although I'm not quite good enough to make the holes look intentional...

Feeling a bit 70s?

I had a bit of a 70s vibe going on today! I’ve had this lacey cream top in my wardrobe for a while but I’ve never worn it – it needed a bit of moderation, so I cut a new neckline and pinned the sleeves up! I had hoped that it would be long enough to wear as a dress, but unfortunately it’s just too short, so leggings it is.

The necklace was a DIY. I found a leaf brooch in a charity shop (aah I love charity shops!) and bought a long chain to go with it. After removing the badge bit from the back, I hammered a small hole in the top of the leaf and put a little ring through which I then attached to the chain. I’m quite pleased with the result – all for a mere £1!

I can’t wait for the long weekend! (May Day bank holiday = day off on Monday!). Although I’ll mainly be sat indoors revising for my french speaking test. Eeek.

Polkadot Dress

I found this dress in a bargain bin at a second hand shop and immediately fell in love! It is a bit long for me, but I really wanted to wear it today and I didn’t have time to hem it so I hitched it up a bit with a belt. I quite liked the baggy effect - so I might not bother hemming it now. Hmm!

Oh, and I've well and truly learned that: Dresses + Windy days = Bad!

Style Icon #1 - Francoise Hardy

I thought I’d share one of my favourite style icons – Francoise Hardy! I suppose she’s kindof like an Alexa Chung from the 60s. I absolutely love everything about her – her clothes, her songs, her hair…

Everything she wore was very chic, very French and very wearable today. I absolutely love the leather jacket she has on in the motorbike picture (which reminds me, I need to start my hunt for the perfect jacket!). I wouldn’t mind that coat either!

Not only was she great in the fashion department, Francoise was also a brilliant singer. Here is a video of my favourite song, ‘Tous les garcons et les filles’.

My favourite shirt!

I know they’re everywhere at the moment, but I’ll never stop loving lumberjack shirts. They’re so unbelievably versatile! I think between me and my boyfriend, we probably own about 10.

My favourite shirt is a men’s one I found in a charity shop a while ago. It’s quite big – maybe a bit too big haha – but I wear it with everything. I think part of the reason I love it is its worn-in-ness. I feel a bit like I’m in the 90s whenever I put it on!

Hidden Treasures

When I saw this vintage bag at a carboot the other week, I couldn’t resist! It was only 75p but it’s in such good condition, and just the right size to hold handbag essentials. When I got it home and had a closer look inside, I found some old stamps in the pockets!


The first was a set of three ‘Green Shield Stamps’. They were an early example of a shop loyalty scheme, and were very popular in the 60s and 70s. One stamp was given out for every 6d spent on goods, and they could be swapped for things like cameras, washing machines, and even motor boats! They died out when people realised that they weren’t getting a very good deal – to get a free TV would have required the stamp collector to have bought the equivalent of a small house!

I asked my dad about the National Insurance stamp. He said that it was the old way of paying for services like the NHS and contributing towards your pension. People usually bought the stamps each week - if they didn't, they wouldnt be eligible for the national insurance benefits.

Here's my outfit for today! I wasn't sure about the black tights - they seem a bit severe for such a pale outfit. The skirt is from Urban Outfitters, and I found the lacey floral top in a charity shop, but it was originally from Marks & Spencer.
